There is nothing worse than going to one of your favorite fanfiction author’s or fanart artist’s profiles and finding it completely purged of all content and all forms of contact.
And your heart kind of just drops because hell, fandom generated content can still make your seethe, cry, laugh, and feel, and although it’s totally within that author/artist’s right to do what they want with their content there is still a little part of you that rings empty because you will never feel the happiness of enjoying their creative endeavors ever again.
Fiction can hurt in many ways, and this is just one, very meta way.
one of my favorite things about fandom is that the exchange of intellectual and creative property is a legitimate form of gift giving. like ‘i’m so enchanted by you, i love you, let me tell you a story’
#as much as i’m turned off by certain aspects of fandom it’s things like this that balance them out #there’s just something so sweet and selfless in wanting to share your own little safe haven with another individual #i have all of these lovely feelings about a thing and i want you to have them too #because you mean a lot to me and this means a lot to me and i want to share this happiness okay #i want you to have this too #it’s all just really fucking wonderful when you think about it man #creativity in the least selfish way possible and it’s brilliant and yeah
Featured Fanfic: “Cooking Lessons” by MidsummerNiteDreamer | The Fic Reviewer
A new fanfic review. The author is one of us one this tag. I see you, DimensionExplosion. Love this fic.
Hello Lexi,
I have read and read your review of “Cooking Lessons” from your blog many times now. I am beyond honored and happy to be featured on your blog and I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart for your thought, care, and grace in your review.
Tonight I also came across another little gem of a post originally from mayahansens with commentary from an unknown source added.

The Trauma Center fandom is small. It’s one of our inherent charms but for the creators of fanart, fanfic, and even the makers of the canon game it is also a bit of a curse. Sometimes it does seem like there is no one to absorb and appreciate what is being created. True, I write fanfiction to satisfy my own passion for fiction and storytelling, but I, like any other author big or small, like when other people acknowledge my works and say that they like them (or hate them, but I digress!).
Because for me fanfiction is a full fledged two way gift. I get to craft stories in the universes of my favorite works of fiction while sharing what I write with like minded people with the same drive for more than we’ve been given.
So once again, thank you for reviewing my fic, thank you for the honor of being featured on your blog, and thank you for being apart of my little haven of fandom.
Yours in solidarity,
MidsummerNiteDreamer/DimensionExplosion/Becca
P.S. I have updated Asclepias Blossoms with a newly edited one-shot to honor this occasion.
“My Fave Is Problematic. Now What?”
Am I still allowed to like them?
Yes. No one is stopping you from doing anything. You can like and consume their work without liking them as a person. You can even like them as a person, so long as you recognize that they do have problematic issues.
How can I be a good fan?
Try and make them a better person. If they do something problematic, call them out on it. I recognize that famous people are busy and don’t read every single Twitter reply or Facebook comment they get, but still try it. At the very least, you’ll be educating other fans.
How can I be a conscious fan?
Recognize that they did something wrong. Accept it. Don’t try to defend it or explain it. Say “so-and-so makes great music, but I wish they weren’t racist” or “I think that they’re really talented, but they are also sexist”. It’s a package deal. Tell other fans what they did. When praising them, don’t ignore the problematic stuff. Talk about that too.
Swimming Anime Freak Storm Arises
A thirty-second commercial known as Ore To Omae No Sa O Oshiete Yaru Yo (More commonly referred to as simply Swimming Anime) was released by japanese studio Animation DO. While the trailer features no dialogue, no character names, or any information at all about the four male leads or the show they are featured in, Swimming Anime has exploded into a full-scale fandom hurricane featuring far more ships than any olympic-sized pool should be able to handle.
Fandom does as fandom pleases.
- character: says "I like bread" that one time
- fandom: character has an obsession with bread. bread is character's true love. draws character as bread. every meta joke in fanfic is about bread. the character's room is wallpapered with bread
Amulet Duelist: everytime someone posts in the tag "omg theyre making a new xiaolin showdown!!"
I’m sorry for ruining the party with my opinion, but.
Laughing at someone because they discovered something much later than everyone else in the fandom is a little immature, and quite frankly, elitist.
So a lot of us knew about Xiaolin Chronicles the…
This is relevant to all fandoms and all fans.
Reblog if you are in a secondhand fandom.
Secondhand Fandom: When you do not actually watch/read/are really interested in said fandom or object of the fandom, but you know enough about it that you can hold an intelligent and involved conversation with someone in the fandom.
It’s like dying from lung cancer because you live with a chain smoker, but you yourself have never touched a cigarette in your life.

How to be a fan of problematic things
#internalizing the ‘the things we like don’t define our worth as people’ part #that being said can we pls just talk about how this automatically interferes w the bullshit way of thinking #tumblr’s common social justice blogger seems to have? #the ‘this person did or said sth problematic so no one is allowed to like him/her anymore #as he/she is a bad bad person and if you keep liking him/her we’ll be sure to judge you’ tires me really out #it’s all about acknowledging the problematic elements as being said in this beautiful quote #that’s the thing ppl should really care about (via zimska)

OH SWEET MOTHER OF AGNI IF YOU REVERSE THE KORRA FAILING AT AIRBENDING SCENE IT LOOKS LIKE A REPRESENTATION OF BEING SUCKED STRAIGHT UP INTO THE DEPTHS OF HELL AHAHAH A HA
or being sucked into the fandom
Do you understand how accurately this represents my first exposure to LOK, or, hell, even ATLA?
Things under NO circumstances you should say to different fandoms:
- Avengers: Anyone's name that is Coulson or Phil, especially if someone's name is Phil Coulson.
- Supernatural: Hunting and Dad should never be used in the same sentence.
- Sherlock: "Go jump off a cliff" Anything remotely involving jumping or falling. Be careful of where you put your smiley faces and skulls. DO NOT SAY STEVEN MOFFAT.
- Doctor Who: "Hey, who turned out the lights?" "Don't even blink." "I'm sorry, I'm so very sorry." "I don't want to go." Do not mention "rose" and 10 in the same sentence, mentioning people named Donna, Martha, Amelia (Amy), Sarah Jane, and Rose is equally upsetting. Don't talk about ponds. DO NOT SAY STEVEN MOFFAT.
- Young Justice: "Welcome Back." "Just don't die, okay?"
- Trauma Center: You should not speak of CR-S01 and his relationship with his dad and Rosalia.
